Waxing your car takes a little time, but it's an important step in protecting your vehicle's finish. It's also quite rewarding to give your car that showroom luster. Here are some suggestions.
- Before waxing, your car must be thoroughly washed, rinsed and allowed to dry completely.
- Avoid waxing your car in the bright sun. Choose a shady area, or pick an overcast day for the job.
- Apply the wax to flat surfaces on the car first, and work in small sections. Depending on the product, you may need to cover the entire car and let the wax dry, or you may be able to wax just one section at a time. Follow the manufacturer's directions and recommendations that come with the wax you've selected.
- For most products, it's best to apply the wax in small, circular motions. Once the wax dries to a haze, remove it and polish the car with a soft cloth.
- It's a good idea to wax your car at least every six months. Waxings should be more frequent if your car is white, black or red.
