Andrew and Christie do some of the finish-up and trim work on the El Camino.
    Media System Installation

    • Installing the new kick panels proves to be fairly simple. The panels were a bit larger in some spots, so Andrew and Christie trim then down here and there using snips. They work patiently, cutting only a small amount each time after a test-fit so they don' t cut off more than needed. Once they re-cut to fit they simply slide in place. Andrew and Christie reinstall the door sill pieces to hold them in place.

    • Next, Andrew and Christie run the wires from the new speakers over to the center of the dash.

    • With the wires in place, it' s time to wire up the head unit. They begin by wiring the harness, which plugs into the back of the radio. They take the leads from the speakers, antenna and remotes, pull it through the dash and begin wiring to the harness.

    • Andrew and Christie begin with the red wire, which supplies power from the ignition switch. They connect it with a splice connector to the matching wire on the harness.

    • They continue working through the remainder of the harness, matching everything with its appropriate wire.

    • The other connections are all plug-ins. First, Andrew and Christie hook up the pre-amp output to the wires that they ran underneath the carpet to the amp.

    • They plug in the harness and the antenna, and they use wire ties to neaten the wiring before tucking it into the dash. They slide the head unit into place.

    • There is a trim bezel that snaps on to hide the brackets, and then they pop on the faceplate.

The new system is in place. The next, and final, step in the restoration is installation of the new steering wheel.
