Just two final steps left: (1) install a mirror so we can see what's coming up behind us, and (2) put a layer of protection on the bike's new paint.

Mirror InstallationThe mirror installs on the handlebar with a clamp. Place the clamp around the handlebar, on either the left or right side, your choice.Insert the mirror arm through the barrel piece of the clamp. Tighten the bolt on the clamp, but leave it loose enough that adjustments can be made. Sit on the bike and adjust the mirror so you can see just along your arm and behind you. Once you have the adjustment, tighten the bolt with a wrench.

Chris Matthews takes a moment to take satisfaction in his handiwork. The Indian is now complete.

Paint Protection: Hold Off On the Wax!Since the paint is brand new, it's important at this point not to use wax. The paint has to fully cure and the wax can prevent this, and this would affect the long term quality of your paint work. Instead, apply just a small amount of glaze to the paint surfaces and buff it out with a soft cotton cloth. Continue this until all the paint has a protective coat of glaze. Note: This is a summary of steps included in the automotive restoration procedures shown in this episode of Classic Rides. These are general guidelines for restoration procedures on this particular make and model of motorcycle, and for the level of restoration selected for this project. There may be variations in procedures depending model, condition of vehicle, level of restoration undertaken and the types of replacement parts or upgrade kits selected. Always follow proper safety precautions, and read and follow manufacturer's guidelines, diagrams and safety notices that come with any replacement parts or kit that you select.
