    Researching the Mustang

Because the Mustang is one of the most revered of American classic automobiles, there's no shortage of literature and resources available to the restoration hobbyist. Moreover, it's easy to find other Mustang enthusiasts through Mustang clubs — whether national, regional or local.

Mustangs, both new and classic, are frequently featured in popular car magazines available at most newsstands. In fact, there are magazines devoted strictly to Mustangs and related models, targeted directly to the avid Mustang enthusiast (figure Q).

If you're really a serious Mustang historian, you can also find them featured in magazine ads (figure R) and articles from the mid-1960s. In fact, such was this car's notoriety that Ford's Lee Iacocca made the cover of Newsweek magazine (figure S) at the time that the Mustang made its debut.

For the Mustang restorer, there are numerous books on the history of the car as well as guidebooks showing detailed restoration steps (figures T and U). There are also Mustang specialty parts dealers and catalogs (figure V).

And because of the popularity of this car among collectors and restorers, some enthusiasts collect manufacturer and dealership literature and ads (figure W), and replicas of vintage owners manuals are available through mail order and internet sites (figure X).
