  • Credenza restored and RV sofa bed installed in the living room
    From "Classic Rides"
    episode DCLR-208

Host Kevin Tetz continues the living room renovation by installing a re-laminated credenza and a foldout dining table in the boomerang design of the kitchen. He also restores the control panel and storage cabinet, and then he installs a new foldout sofa bed made for today's RVs, which will replace the original cumbersome "Gaucho" sofa bed.

    Restoring the Credenza

Note: The credenza door is in fine shape but the insert (figure A) must go, Kevin said. "It's dated like most of the components in the trailer."
    1. In order to make a new piece of glass for the credenza door, use the old piece as a template for the new Plexiglas.

    2. Measure the old piece on top of the new, marking around the edges to get the correct size.

    3. Cut the new Plexiglas to size.

    4. Cut with a straightedge--using the back edge. Hold the straight edge firm. It "should" take several times to cut.

    5. Take the cut line and line it up with table-top edge (figure B), push down and pop it off.

    6. The DIY producers and Kevin created a pattern using household tape to form the boxes (figure C).

    7. To get a frosted look, scrub the surface with household scrubbing pad, sanding in circular motion.

    8. With the whole thing sanded and scuffed, remove the tape where the glass was not scuffed. It makes a nice pattern.

    9. Install the glass on the credenza, mount the new credenza to the floor and back wall.

    10. Screw the door into place with hinges on the side.

    11. Finally, the foldout table just slides into place with the hinge already on it.

Just by adding a new insert, the credenza looks fresh and modern.

And the new foldout table simple slides into place.

The piece-de-resistance is a new sofa bed, which has a storage unit underneath!

In the final segment Kevin and a guest add a new rock guard to the trailer, which will hide the repaired front windows.
