  • Airstream: Installing Window Blinds
  • From "Classic Rides"
    episode DCLR-205

In this third segment host Kevin Tetz installs brushed aluminum micro window blinds that add the modern metal look and move well with the mobile trailer. He also installs a new ash gray folding door between the kitchen and bedroom on the project 1970 Airstream.

The Airstream came with old curtains and window blinds that were shot.

    The New Window Treatment

    1. To make a window sill, cut a piece of 1" x 2" board to fit the width and secure it with screws from inside the board (figure A).

    2. Measure and mark the bracket positions, then drill pilot holes a little smaller than the screws where the mounting brackets will go.

    3. Screw the mounting brackets into place. The window blind just pops into place in the brackets.

    Installing the Folding Door

    1. Before the sliding door between the bedroom and rest of the coach is installed, the track guide (figure B) goes overhead--but the slides have to be glided into the track first.

    2. The guides on top of the door simply slide into the track. The fit should be snug.

    3. Align the screw up with the pre-drilled hole starting on the outside of the pillar going into the track guide.

    4. Use a ratchet wrench (best for tight areas) to secure the screw.

    5. The side of the sliding door is secure to the backside using screws.

    6. Attach the door latch onto the other side of the door frame.

In the final segment of the "Bedroom" episode, Kevin replaces the tambour in the upper storage cabinets.
