  • Airstream: Tint Bathroom Window and Install Lighting Fixture
  • From "Classic Rides"
    episode DCLR-203

The bathroom is painted, a new aluminum wall treatment installed and the plumbing is complete. In this final segment host Kevin Tetz demonstrates how to re-do the tint of the bathroom window--a typical automotive project. He also installs a new 12-volt RV-style bathroom vanity light in brushed nickel to go with the aluminum styling.

Host Kevin Tetz demonstrates how to replace the old window tint on the '70 Airstream.

    Tinting the Window

    1. To remove the window film use a kit, and then spray solution onto the window.

    2. Place a piece of plastic on the window over the solution. After the solution has been on for a few hours, remove the plastic by scraping with a single-edged razor blade.

    3. Clean with glass cleaner.

Note: When putting new film onto the window, be sure to follow directions on the type of film you have.

    4. First use soapy water on the window, and then place the film onto the soapy window.
    5. Squeegee out the excess water and then take the backing off of the film. Separate the two pieces.

    Installing New Light Fixture

    1. To install new lighting, turn the power off and cut the wires.

    2. Remove the old fixtures and strip the wires.

    3. Connect the new color coded wires, secure them with wire nut and wrap the connections with electrical tape.

    4. With the wires tucked away, install new fixture with screws into pre-drilled holes.

    5. The new bulbs go in.

In the next episode the interior of the '70 Airstream is painted, the old hand-crank roof vents are upgraded, a more powerful rooftop air conditioner is installed and the faded wood cabinets are restored.
