[PAGE SEPARATOR] Replacing the Fuel Filter

To replace the old filter, you'll need to get under the car.

    • Remove the pressure tester fuel line and loosen the fuel filter bracket clamp, and the old filter comes out (figure X).

Note: It's important to install a new fuel line clip when replacing parts.

    • The new fuel filter is labeled for the "in" fuel line, and the other end is for the outlet, which is connected to the outgoing fuel line. The fuel filter bracket clamp is tightened down and the filter is secured (figure Y).

    • Re-connect the fuel pressure test line so that you can check the repaired system.

    • The pressure tester line is removed, a new fuel line clip is installed and the line is connected to the new fuel filter.

When you're done with everything, the truck bed goes back on. It's a good idea to apply anti-seize compound to the truck bed bolts before reinstalling them. This will keep them secure and also prevent corrosion. Use a wire brush to clean rust off of truck bed bolts and replace any damaged bolts. And the fuel filler neck is secured to the truck bed.

Tip: It's always a good idea to keep your fuel tank full. The more air in the tank the more condensation and water that gets mixed in with the gas--and gas and water don't mix. Keeping the tank full will prevent air and water from rusting a metal tank.
