Storm Proofing

Episode DCON-110UH

Everyone needs a roof to keep out the rain, but some roofs do a better job than others. Contractor Matt Blashaw travels the country to find out how technology helps storm proof our homes. At the University of Florida in Gainesville he witnesses a monster machine that can simulate a hurricane. At the Owens Corning factory we learn what goes into making roof shingles, then we head to the test range, where Matt subjects various roofing materials to a simulated hailstorm.
