Backyard Deck With Stone Fire Pit

Arguably one of the most dramatic Blog Cabin 2010 makeovers, the backyard, tackled by Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns and their Indoors Out team, accommodates summer gatherings, large and small.

Room with a New View

French doors that connect indoor and outdoor living rooms replace the home's original fireplace with massive brick chimney, which obstructed views of the countryside.

Rustic Railings

Rough-cut, square-picket rails, chosen by online voters, and hemlock posts give the porch a rustic look.

Deck With Adirondack Chairs

The nearly 600-square-foot deck is topped with weather-resistant and eco-friendly Trex decking over a pressure-treated frame. Boards are attached using a unique clipping system that hides screws. Adirondack chairs, stained the same shade as the siding, invite relaxation.

Vintage Red Cedar Cabin Shutters

Custom-crafted red cedar shutters, complete with wrought-iron shutter dogs, strap hinges and pulls, give the home a lived-in, centuries-old look.

Adirondack Chairs in Olive Green

Adirondack chairs seem most fitting on the back deck of this New York mountain getaway. Decorative pillows echo the home's interior decor.

Adirondack Chaise Lounges on Deck

Oversized pillows upholstered in weatherproof fabrics invite one to kick back and relax in the Adirondack chaise longues.

Deck Stairs and Bluestone Patio

The Indoors Out crew trimmed and laid bluestone for the back patio, which features a custom-crafted circular fire pit.

Deck Stairs and Landscaping

The base of the deck is layered with gravel to prevent weed growth. Frame posts are set with concrete foots below the frost line for stability.

Cabin Backyard Landscaping and Deck

A variety of low-growing pine shrubs, ferns, and flowering and shade-loving plants, including hostas, dot the backyard landscape.

Kentucky Bluegrass Backyard

More than 1,000 square feet of Kentucky bluegrass sod was laid in the backyard, which transitions into open meadow. A variegated dogwood tree planted near the patio will mature and eventually provide shade for the outdoor area.

Existing Trees Incorporated into Design

The property's existing trees were protected from construction damage. Rather than fell an oak tree adjacent to the original back deck, it was incorporated into the new deck design.

Cabin Two-Car Garage

A two-car garage, complete with paneled doors from Clopay's Reserve collection, offers space to tinker with projects, and to store tools and household items.

Blog Cabin 2010 Backyard

As the sun sets, the fire pit illuminates the backyard space. Constructed of metal with a stone face, the outdoor feature can be utilized throughout the year.

The property line of Blog Cabin 2010 extends to the meadow, where the lawn transitions to open farmland, rolling hills and wooded valleys.
