A shade of vivid sky blue draws the eye in the master bedroom, where a king-sized bed, custom-built from old and new lumber, provides a focal point.

To encourage flow, the entrance from bedroom to bathroom remains open. A sliding barn door, fashioned from an old second-floor door, finds new life as a room divider.

A boat from Harkers Island provided the brass cleat that serves as the door handle

The middle portion of a child's makeup dresser was removed to create two nightstands that provide storage and display space.

A crisp white comforter serves as a neutral canvas for paisley-print and striped duvets and a cozy coverlet, folded at the bed's edge.

A local artist was commissioned to hand-paint the chest, originally stained a shade of dark cherry.

Keepsake lamps that flank the bed are filled with site-sourced sand and shells, plus four-inch-wide burlap ribbon that echoes the design of bathroom walls.

The faces of storage drawers incorporate both sheathing and undershingles from the original home.

Replacing the box frame, drawers offer support and storage for blankets and bedding.

Door knockers, clad with the family crest of Blog Cabin's original owners, double as drawer pulls.

Bright ocean-blue color creates a focal wall. The lid of an old storage box, discovered in the home's "birthing room," once painted and topped with loosely tied cedar branches, stands in for a formal art piece.

Locally sourced interior shutter doors, sponge-painted in neutral tones, form a unique headboard.

Making use of every square inch of space, the master closet is converted to a reach-in storage system with drawers, shelving and hanging rods.

Just steps from the home's great room and open living spaces, a pocket door provides privacy during evening hours and nap times.

A private master deck and entrance allows the homeowner to enter and exit without disturbing overnight or weekend guests.

A custom-crafted porch swing, fashioned from Ipe wood, was selected by online voters as a master suite luxury item.

The porch swing offers a front-row seat to dramatic water and sunset views.
