Living Room

This open and airy gathering space is furnished with the home's picturesque surroundings in mind. With the view of Lake Hamilton just outside the window, club chairs are positioned to accommodate conversation and keep the water in sight.

Circular coffee table and chairs

Once a collection of many small rooms with traffic-clogging doors, walls were taken down to provide a more functional floor plan to dine and relax.

Prairie-style windows offer scenic views of the lake and illuminate the open floor plan with Florida sunshine, while glass double doors conveniently lead straight into the backyard.

Club chair

With picturesque scenery just outside the window, the club chairs sit lower to the ground for an unobstructed the lake view.

Red drawer unit

"Pieces of furniture that are louder than the wall colors prevent a room from becoming too blah," explains project manager Dylan Eastman. A stylish red console provides the perfect balance to energize the space.

Nautical Bookcase

Taking cues from outside, a custom-built bookcase is designed to look like a rowboat. It's a functional and fun way to display charming accessories, from vintage books to an old life preserver.

Club chairs and circular coffee table

The Blog Cabin team strategically designed a versatile sitting area with reconfigurable club chairs. "Whatever they may be used for, they work perfectly in a large space like this," says Dylan. "If you wanted to sit with your friends, talk and look at the water, you can arrange the chairs on one side or move them around to face each other and play card games."

Tiger strand bamboo flooring found throughout the house creates a naturally beautiful look to evoke a feeling of luxury.

Crown moulding detail

White custom trim emulates the trim that was original to the house, adding 1920s character to this lakeside retreat.

Waterski decoration

It was fitting to incorporate a pair of yellow skis into the décor, since Polk County is recognized as a watersport paradise. These vintage accessories provide a pop of color and tell a story of the area.

Nautical themed artwork

A framed 1950s Winter Haven postcard and bowl of oranges adds colorful interest, while incorporating the local passion for watersports and citrus.

What's a boat without its paddles? For a touch of shabby chic style, these lake-inspired accessories hang next to the powder room.

Closet door

A petite powder room, located below the staircase, provides convenient access for guests.

Surrounded by oak trees and Lake Hamilton, it was important for Blog Cabin 2014 to blend seamlessly with the property. When reconfiguring the floor plan, attention was paid to opening rooms and improving the flow of natural light. Prairie-style windows and double doors make up the south wall to provide a scenic view from every angle.
