Side Yard Sports

A fun volleyball court sits in the home's side yard that also includes a two-level deck for those who want to watch or enjoy the sun.

Limestone Rocks

In Florida, both above and below ground, running water forms interesting pools and shapes into native limestone. These naturally formed limestone rocks were used for the landscaping of the house and integrated into the new design of the side yard.

Creative Cooler

A large hole in one of the rocks was filled with ice and drinks that can be enjoyed while watching the action on the volleyball court.

Perfect Planters

For other holes, air plants and succulents were used to fill in the spaces and add texture and visual interest to the side yard.

Well-Designed Deck

The two-level deck surrounded by landscaping provides a spot to lounge, enjoy the sun or watch the action on the nearby volleyball court.

Soothing Blue Color

The two-level deck features the same soothing slate blue color used for the home's siding. Green and multi-colored throw pillows provide comfort on the two deck lounge chairs.

Fill the Holes

Air plants and succulents fill the holes in one of the large limestone rocks that surround the two-level deck. As a planter, the porous limestone provides natural drainage.

Lovely Lanterns

Green lanterns in different sizes with white candles inside add illumination to the deck during the evening hours.

Sun and Shade

The two-level deck enjoys both sunlight and shade created by the trees around the perimeter.

Water Break

Bottles of water and elegant long drinking glasses sit ready to refresh on the side table between the two deck lounge chairs.

Lounge Chairs

The two-level deck's lounge chairs and side table have a rounded shape and combine the same slate blue seen on the home's siding with a natural wood tone.

Native Plantings

The yard at the DIY Network Blog Cabin 2016 was designed to look as natural as possible, with plantings like ornamental grasses that thrive in the warm Florida climate.

Tiki Torches

Six wood tiki torches that burn for eight hours using standard torch fuel were added around the two-level deck for nighttime fun.

Double Duty Rocks

While many of the limestone rocks used for the landscaping have holes containing assorted plants, they can also be used for additional seating when needed.

Attractive Backdrop

A raised planter wall that was constructed in DIY Network's Yard Crashers provides a backdrop for the two-level lounging deck.

Assorted Greenery

An assortment of greenery with exotic looking foliage was added into the raised planter wall that frames the two-level deck.

Raised Planter Wall

The raised planter wall is covered in a stucco panel and painted the same soothing slate blue as the home's siding for a cohesive look.

Towel Off

Microfiber towels with a colorful and vibrant herringbone pattern are draped on two folding lounge chairs made from wood and stainless steel that sit by the volleyball court.

Connected Spaces

The side yard and the action at the volleyball court can be enjoyed from the outdoor bonus room, also known as the Sky Cabin, located high above.
