Prime Destination

Two comfortable wood-framed white sofas, serene coastal colors and a strong connection with the outdoors help make the centrally located living room the perfect spot to relax and entertain.

Enjoy The View

Thanks to large 8-foot-high glass doors, the location’s cool breezes and relaxing water views can be enjoyed from the welcoming living room.

Fully Accessorized

An assortment of books, a touch of nature and coastal-themed accessories dress up the living room coffee table.

Dazzling Divider

A beautiful fish tank now divides the serene living room from the adjacent private guest suite.

Removable Panel

The fish tank includes a removable panel for all of the tank's pumps, allowing for regular maintenance and any needed repairs.

Creative Upcycling

The bottom panel of the fish tank contains parts and the logo of a 19th century restored mahogany boat that was disassembled and used throughout the house in creative ways.

Color and Depth

The impressive fish tank not only contains marine life, but also adds color and depth to the living room.

Soothing Color Palette

The living room's serene color palette combines coastal colors and natural tones for a soothing effect.

Smart Illumination

Cable lights were run in between each of the joist spaces in the ceiling's V-groove paneling, so the lights provide illumination but are also up and out of view.

Fun Focal Point

A fish-scale inspired installation painted with varied neutral tones creates a coastal-style focal point that reflects the location of DIY Network Blog Cabin 2016.

Casual and Comfortable

A leather butterfly chair with blue-and-white striped throw offers comfortable and casual living room seating that can easily be moved where needed for large gatherings.

Can't Miss Table

The living room's custom red oak coffee table with glass top was designed by Amanda Maday and made by Josh Temple and Chris Grundy.

Classic Accent

A hand-tufted ivory floral border wool area rug sits under the living room's custom red oak coffee table topped with books and decorative accessories.

Dashing Door

An arched top door with V-groove paneling and an appealing antique portal now divides the adjacent guest suite from the rest of the home, replacing what once was an open doorway.

Distinctive Divider

Spanish cedar and assorted air plants create a stylish room divider that defines living spaces but also helps the home feel open and airy.

Special Attention

Three small can lights integrated into the top section of the room divider offer accent lighting for books, collectibles and plants.

Hardy Succulents

A selection of hardy succulents bring the natural surroundings and a touch of the outdoors into the living room.

Smart Combination

Combining Spanish cedar on top with white paneling on the bottom keeps the room divider from feeling too heavy.

TV Time

A large flat-screen TV above the living room's direct-vent gas fireplace can be used to watch a big game or catch up on a favorite DIY Network show.

Fashionable Focal Point

The direct-vent fireplace has a surround made from carbon grey porcelain tiles with a wood-grain look, creating a fashionable focal point and backdrop for the inviting living room.

Central Location

With easy access to the kitchen and dining room as well as the guest suite, the living room has a prime central location in the home. The use of whites and neutrals makes the updated space feel bright and inviting.
