Center of Everything

With a breakfast nook on one side, a pantry and office on the other side and an open connection to the living and dining rooms, the DIY Network 2016 Blog Cabin kitchen is the true heart of the home.

Display Storage

Open compartments in the base of the island allow display storage for cookbooks, collectibles, a basket of extra towels and other kitchen essentials.

Stylish Stools

The 24-inch-high bar stools with iron frames and reclaimed pine wood seats offer a place to rest and linger at the island.

Smart Upcycling

Sea glass left over from DIY Network Blog Cabin 2013 plus tempered glass from Blog Cabin 2015 and white concrete were all used for the attractive terrazzo top on the island that distinguishes the kitchen from the surrounding living areas. Natural light gray concrete was used for the kitchen's perimeter counters.

Special Space

Unpainted V-groove planks used for the ceiling help define the kitchen in the home's user-friendly open floor plan. The island's clever copper legs are upcycled boat exhaust pipes.

Stylish Sink

Crafted from enameled cast iron, the kitchen's white apron-front sink has a versatile farmhouse style and two basins that makes it easy to wash and rinse larger items. The sink is paired with a stainless user-friendly touchless technology faucet.

Flat-Screen TV

A flat-screen TV on the kitchen's extended-perimeter concrete countertops provides a chance to catch up on the day's news or watch favorite shows on DIY Network.

Gorgeous Glass Shelves

Four glass shelves above the counters allow for display storage of favorite and often-used bowls and dishes, and also visually help keep the kitchen feeling open and airy. Wood paddles offer a rustic chic way to serve snacks before dinner.

Beautiful Backsplash

The kitchen's decorative white tile backsplash features a fish-scale design that fits with the home's coastal influence.

Coastal Chic Environment

The kitchen's soft-white walls and decorative backsplash along the spacious concrete perimeter countertops create a serene coastal chic environment that feels fresh and inviting.

Nice Contrast

The antique brass hardware adds contrast to the kitchen's white cabinets and drawers.

Bold Black Pendant

A pendant light above the kitchen's sink area has a modern industrial style with a metal shade and black finish.

Runner Rug

A natural beige runner rug over the kitchen's bamboo floor between the sink wall and island adds subtle pattern and a bit of texture.

Natural Beauty

The neutral runner rug keeps with the room's clean color palette but also lets the beauty and warmth of the kitchen's natural strand bamboo floor shine.

On Display

An 11-pound stainless kitchen scale, a wood bowl with fresh fruit and a woven tray are displayed on the kitchen counter.

Upper Cabinets

Plenty of upper cabinets allow easy-access storage for everyday kitchen essentials.

Great Flow

The kitchen's strong connection with adjacent living spaces creates great flow that works for daily living and entertaining.

Coffee Bar

Located between the kitchen and the pantry, the handy coffee bar is decorated with a stone crab cut out of plywood and then stained for a fun and easy reinforcement of the home’s coastal feel. The stone crab wall art is backlit, so it glows at night. An open shelf with a natural iron bracket keeps cups and coffee supplies within easy reach.

Touch of Sparkle

Glass knobs on the handsome coffee bar add some sparkle to the well-detailed kitchen.

Easy-Access Storage

Pull-out pantry storage keeps jars of preserved food and dry goods within easy reach in the kitchen proper.

Walk-In Pantry

Additional storage is available in the adjacent walk-in pantry that includes shelves with white woven plastic storage baskets in different sizes for smaller items, and plenty of space for everything from boxes of cereals and bottles of water to paper products and extra serving plates.

Airtight Jars

Clear airtight jars keep different dry beans organized and within easy reach.

Organized Storage

The back of the island includes a combination of cabinets and drawers for well-organized and user-friendly storage.

Ideal Location

The open and expansive kitchen is just steps away from the inviting living room with serene coastal colors.

Easy Entertaining

The front of the island facing the living and dining areas has hanging storage for wine glasses and cubbies for bottles of wine, helping make entertaining easy.

Defined Space

Spanish cedar wraps two dropped beams to create a visual delineation between the kitchen and adjacent living areas.
