Central Location

The centrally located front entryway includes the home's original set of stairs to the second floor and a new powder room, with updated dining and living areas only steps inside.

Handsome Front Door

The welcoming front door was redone in the confines of the original frame, and sidelights that once had sculpted tops were changed to a more modern and sleek rectangular shape.

Rich Details

Dark hardware gives the custom front door, rebuilt with rails and stiles and Wenge wood V-groove infill, a rich look.

Display Space

A library area, located where a small closet once stood, includes built-in cabinets with open shelves above for plants, books, decorative accessories and framed photos.

Local Flavor

Shelves in the library area offer the chance to introduce a touch of nature, with plants that reflect the local area and vegetation.

Special Touches

The library area also provides a spot for a tray with fresh flowers and a bowl of vintage keys that add texture to the room.

Car Prize

A remote in the entry controls the fuel-efficient compact crossover SUV that is part of the DIY Network Blog Cabin 2016 prize package.

Storage Options

A combination of drawers and cabinets with simple round knobs offer closed storage for entertaining and living essentials.

Durable Floor

Natural strand bamboo is an ideal choice for the entryway because the material stands up to daily traffic.

Fresh Look

The updated staircase includes white oak treads and unfinished white oak risers, replacing what was once carpeted stairs. A diamond pattern provides visual interest on the landing.

Modern Update

An 18-inch wide, oil-rubbed bronze foyer pendant, with two tiers of candelabra style lights within a bronze finish metal frame, illuminates the front entry staircase.

Handsome Handrail

The staircase's wood handrail was also given a makeover, with clean lines and a more modern, simple look.

Unique Decor

A cypress stump creates a unique decorative feature in the entryway’s exterior corner of the stairs.

Touch of Nature

The distinctive cypress tree stump holds easy-care plants that bring the outdoors inside.

Wonderful Wall Mural

A black-and-white illustration of leaves in a seamless pattern creates an eye-catching wall covering that decorates the exterior of the staircase and the wall surrounding the entry's new powder room.

New Powder Room

Since a publicly accessed bathroom was lost during the home's makeover, a new powder room was added to a portion of wasted space underneath the stairs to the upper level.

Hanging Storage

A ladder shelf provides handy storage for hand towels and a potted plant adds a touch of nature to the airy, neutral powder room off the home's front entry and dining area.

Stylish Sink

The powder room's round vessel sink is decorated with a Moorish design on a white background, making a striking focal point.

Sleek Towel Ring

A sleek towel ring with elegant lines provides an easy way to air-dry wet hand towels in the well-detailed powder room.

Natural Touch

The live-edge wood countertop is finished with coordinating trim for a tailored look.

Chrome Sconce

A chrome two-light wall sconce provides illumination over the powder room mirror and sink.

Helpful Mirror

A tall wood framed mirror helps visually expand the size of the small powder room.

Open and Airy

The entryway seamlessly blends with the surrounding living spaces and helps set the tone for the home's clean, light and airy main level.
