Outer hallway bulletin board

"Instead of buying cabinets, we had stuff left over," says project manager Dylan Eastman. The Blog Cabin team brought the original refrigerator back to life as storage for the message station. "It's like it was made to go here," hey says. "All it needed was trim and to be sanded down to show the pine's tight grain."

Hallway steel counter detail

The countertop features leftover sheet metal from an old furnace. "It reads G.F. Kletzin East Winter Haven, which was the name of the family who built the house," says Dylan. "We added trim around it to keep the family history and story intact."

Cabinet hardware detail

Painted in the color palette of the house, the doors were re-hinged to open in a horizontal direction. The grain's neutral tones blend seamlessly with the bamboo hardwood floors.

Located between the kid's bedroom and guest bedroom, there is a perfect nook for a message center to spice up a long, uninteresting hallway. "If you want to leave notes for guests about where you are and what you are doing, there is a place to put all that," says Dylan.
