Margi Wolff of Fort Myers, Fla., is the proud winner of the DIY Blog Cabin 2009 Sweepstakes, a cash prize worth more than $500,000.
Wolff, a DIY Network fan who lists Blog Cabin and Desperate Landscapes as her two favorite shows, entered online almost every day during the contest entry period. This is the first year Wolff has entered the sweepstakes, and she admits that she fell in love with Blog Cabin 2009 as soon as the series aired. “I was so impressed by the workmanship,” she adds. “The on-air team put a lot of love and goodwill into the house. That really impressed me. It was more than a project – it was a gift.”
Wolff was stunned when she received the good news. “I called my husband David and said, ‘I got this e-mail from DIY Network, and I’m trying not to have a heart attack.’ It was amazing,” she adds. The prize could not have come at a better time for Wolff and her family, facing their own struggles during this difficult recession. “I had been praying for this,” adds Wolff. “That day we got the news, we sat around and laughed – all that financial pressure being lifted from us. Now we can think about the future in completely different terms. This isn’t just a contest – it’s a blessing.”
A writer of children’s books, teacher, nature lover and avid traveler, Wolff plans to enjoy her prize with her five children. “I look forward to becoming debt free, helping my daughter with her wedding expenses and building a nest egg for my future dream cabin,” Wolff says. “God blessed me so I hope to be a blessing to others.”
In honor of the occasion, a crafty group of DIY Blog Cabin fans presented Wolff with a custom-made patchwork quilt. “It was such an emotional moment,” says Wolff, recalling the afternoon when she received and opened the special care package. “This is a keepsake I will have for the rest of my life.”
