Arts-and-Crafts -- Skylight

Episode DBTR-310

Homeowners Nate and Carolyn moved a year ago with their two sons to this 1918 Arts & Crafts bungalow. The main floor of the house retains its original Arts & Crafts charm with built-ins and back band woodwork. However the upstairs was finished very cheaply with low ceilings and an awful half bathroom. They've shopped around to see what it would take to make the upstairs more livable. To save money, they've decided to have a contractor add a dormer-maybe two and then do the finish work themselves. The dormer will give space for an enlarged bathroom that will be finished in an Arts & Crafts style to match the main level. In this first of four episodes, Amy aides the homeowners with the installation of a skylight to one of two new dormers. Then, they cross a major item off of Carolyn's wish list by adding a laundry chute.
